Metro Market Atlanta Seeking Great Produce!

Just had a great conversation with Dori Ginsberg about the Metro Market Atlanta event happening this month (May). It's a fantastic set up and they're doing a lot of marketing to get folks walking through the show. One area they'd like to expand is the Farmers Market portion of the show.

If you have produce, especially organic (but not required) then you may want to check them out. I'll be there the weekend of May 22nd with my pottery (www.hummingbird-hollow.com) and one of our other advertisers (www.horizonsltd.com) will be there the entire month with their garden tools and products.

Dori and partner Candice Keilin have both had successful independent ventures in the past and I know this is going to be another now that they've partnered for the Metro Market Atlanta.

There will be art, activities for kids, demonstrations, food, crafts and something for everyone.

This is currently a one month event but they have high hopes it will expand into a permanent Market located right downtown in the midst of Buckhead. They have super visibility on Hwy. 85, too. The Metro Market Atlanta is located in the Old Buckhead Design Building.

Fayette Students Design Scarecrow for Garden

Eighth grade select art students pose for a picture with Skatecrow before he is taken to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for display.

Art students at Fayette Middle School have been busy scaring up a unique display for the Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Scarecrows in the Garden event.

A life-sized middle schooler with a backpack and riding a skateboard, titled Skatecrow, will be one of 125 scarecrows adorning the garden October 1-31.

The eighth grade select art students, 21 in all, designed the scarecrow using chicken wire and paper mache for the body and adorned it with recycled materials such as telephone wire for the hair, bottle tops for a belt and hand-me-down clothes and shoes. The students included something from all categories of life that young adolescents love: sports, music, iPods, cell phones, snacks, etc.

Making the scarecrow was both a learning experience and struggle for the students. It took about five weeks from inception to finish.

“The students used materials for this project that they normally would not use and have learned many concepts beyond the artwork itself,” says art teacher Ellen Mitchell.

To be eligible for the eighth grade select art class, students must have a teacher recommendation and maintain an 85 percent or higher grade point average during their seventh grade year. The class lasts for one semester and is designed to offer students an opportunity to create more difficult, challenging and lengthy projects.

Vision Bear to speak in Peachtree City

The Fayette Art Center is hosting a free seminar with Vision Bear, a Mexicali and Mayan Indian belonging to the Amantecatl and Tlacatecolotl clans whose language is similar to the Apache.
Vision Bear is also a Tepatiani (visionary healer), artist and teacher.
He received the ancestral gifts from his great-grandfather, Don Gaitano Flores, which set his life on a journey of love and pain, of wonder and mystery.
He will be giving a free lecture at the Peachtree City Library (downstairs) on Thursday, Feb. 21st at 6:30 pm.
His presentation will be about "Ehecatl Art" which is a healing art created in unison with "that which can be felt but not seen".
